Paper Dreams: The Story of Paper Layer Cake

Hi there, I’m Melanie, the founder and designer behind Paper Layer Cake. My story begins with a lifelong love for art and creativity. I hold a four-year art degree, but I’m also a self-taught graphic designer. My journey into the world of paper design came from a fascination with beautiful stationery and a deep love for paper, botanical elements, and the subtle textures that make each piece feel special.

Every design in my collection starts with inspiration from nature and everyday beauty. I curate my favorite colors and patterns and transform them into thoughtfully crafted pieces of stationery. From printing and scoring to cutting and folding, every single item is made by hand in my private studio in Columbus, Ohio.

One of my favorite creative outlets is making handcrafted die-cut cards. These designs are where Paper Layer Cake truly lives up to its name—layered notes created from multiple cuts of paper that come together like slices of cake to form something truly unique. Whether it’s a sweet floral greeting, a whimsical thank-you card, or a keepsake for a special moment, each card is designed to be more than just stationery—it’s meant to be a memorable gift in itself.

What I love most about this work is that it allows me to bring my passion for art and storytelling into someone else’s life. There’s something so meaningful about creating something tangible—something that can be held, shared, and cherished.

In a world where digital messages often come and go, I believe in the beauty of slowing down and sending a note that feels personal. I hope my designs encourage people to connect, celebrate, and create moments of joy—one thoughtful card at a time.

That’s the heart of Paper Layer Cake: layers of care, creativity, and connection that turn simple paper into something unforgettable.
